Job Description

Primary Purpose:

The SGS Passenger Cars / Special Equipment is responsible for maintaining the NS Business Train fleet of passenger cars and supporting equipment.


Provides supervision of various craft personnel that inspect and maintain the passenger car fleet and supporting equipment .Oversees safe and efficient operations including inspection, repair, and maintenance activities under their area of responsibility.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Monitors cadence and quality of repairs to office car equipment to assure high reliability and availability of the passenger car fleet. 
  • The position requires knowledge of FRA Title 49 Part 238 Passenger Equipment Safety Standards and applicable regulatory and industry practices. 
  • Works with control center on scheduling car movements in and out of the shop as well as train movements, to minimize delays to trains and maximize shop production.
  • Ensures employees carry out their work within the parameters of Federal, State, & Corporate Safety Regulations, thus requiring complete familiarization with these statutes & rules.
  • Ensures inspecting, testing, and maintenance of the fleet is performed at the highest standard by all employees across the system.
  • Incumbent must be capable of leading a team and adapting to changing industry demands and technology to maintain the safety and reliability of the fleet.  This includes continuously improving the process to support a safe, resilient, and reliable fleet.
  • Ensures Quality issues are addressed and that work performed at all locations is in accordance with requirements.
  • Ensures detailed documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs are recorded. 

 

Job Related Experience: Previous passenger train experience is desirable. 
   Minimum Level:  3-5 years
   Preferred Level:  6-10 years

   Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BS)
