A Day in the Life of a Communications and Signals Intern
As an intern working with the Communication and Signals (C&S) team, you will assist design engineers and staff on a variety of projects.
Trending and analysis of C&S systems, the design and commissioning of C&S equipment and systems, accuracy verification of database resources used to regulate train dispatching systems, revisions to electronic drawings and schematics, research planning and deployment of new technology, and other duties. Interns may also travel to field locations to gain a better understanding of Norfolk Southern and learn how the work they are doing fits in.
What Makes a Successful Intern?
• Must have knowledge and operational skills in electronics combined with competency in computer software applications - knowledge of Windows, Access, Excel, and Word is preferred
• Willingness to travel and work outdoors is required, as well as a willingness to work extended hours when situations dictate
• General hands-on knowledge of electronic equipment with good troubleshooting and problem solving skills is helpful

Pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree
Preferred Degree Paths: Electro-Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or industrial engineering
