Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Executes the departmental and corporate market and sales plans with a select group of domestic customers accounting for approximately 5% of the Domestic IMC volume, and implements directed strategies in the domestic Intermodal market place in order to achieve optimal profitability and growth objectives for those accounts.

Principal Duties:

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of the marketing, transportation, and distribution requirements of the Intermodal market, and making necessary decisions to achieve optimum profit and market share levels.
  • Provide direct support to select strategic beneficial cargo owners and works with the appropriate internal teams that support those BCOs as needed.   
  • Works with management to develop volume and revenue budgeting for select customers. 
  • Implements tactical plans to customers to support strategic goals in order to grow volume, profit and market share. 
  • Sustains strong positive relations with existing accounts in the Intermodal markets while developing new accounts, products, and tactical plans as required.
  • Works closely with the domestic pricing team to ensure competitive and profitable pricing for the domestic intermodal markets vs. competing conveyances.
  •  Develops and maintains very close working relationships with select customers at multiple levels of responsibility in order to maximize Norfolk Southern’s revenue and profitability with those customers, and in order to support Norfolk Southern’s strategic goals in the Domestic intermodal market place.
  • Provide regular communication with NS Intermodal Management regarding strategic initiatives and developments underway assigned accounts and all significant matters relative to the partnership strategy with those customers.
  • Applies knowledge of NS operating and cost structures and corporate objectives in making decisions and recommendations to achieve required goals.
  •  Prepares and submits weekly sales, traffic fluctuation reports and other misc reporting to senior management as needed.

 Job Related Experience:
   Minimum Level:  1-2 years
   Preferred Level:  2-3 years

Education:
   Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS, MBA, MS)
   Preferred Majors:
      - Business - Business Administration
      - Business - Transportation Operations / Logistics
