Job Description

Primary Purpose:

We are looking for an Accountant-Financial Reporting to join our team. This position will play a key role on the Corporate Accounting team ensuring accurate financial data and adherence to GAAP. This role contributes to Norfolk Southern’s success by participating in our monthly close process and working alongside our financial reporting team responsible for our external reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual filings, debt issuances, and other statutory reporting. This role will report to our Assistant Manager Financial Reporting.

 

This position is Hybrid meaning there will be a mixture of virtual and on-site work at our state of the art, LEED Certified headquarters located in midtown Atlanta.

Principal Duties

  • Develops routine and non-routine journal entries.
  • Participates in the monthly closing process and provides monthly reports to support the financial statements.
  • Responsible for accounting, reporting and reconciliation of the prepaid asset account as well as the reasonableness of the related monthly expense.
  • Required to work closely with other groups including Risk Management, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable to ensure accounts are properly reflected.
  • Works with various departments monthly to compile flux analysis to provide to Controller.
  • Performs subsidiary company reporting and equity accounting.
  • Prepares subsidiary financial statements
  • Prepares bank reconciliations for certain cash accounts
  • Responds to audit requests from external and internal auditors.
  • Assists with the preparation of various 10-K and 10-Q footnotes.
  • Assists with the preparation of various annual STB reports.
  • Assists with the development, analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Coordinates Ad-hoc projects as necessary.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 1 – 3 years

 

Education:

Required Level: Bachelor's Degree (BBA)

Preferred Majors: Accounting

 

Licenses / Certifications:

Strongly Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
