Job Description:

Norfolk Southern Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, seeks an energetic problem solver who desires to learn new technical skills in application development. This applicant must be a self-starter, be inquisitive and highly motivated to meet project deadlines and technology challenges. The Norfolk Southern Information Technology Department is searching for a qualified candidate to join a dynamic development team working on a multi-year project to transition from the mainframe technology stack to a vendor solution with TIBCO and Java interfaces. 

 

This position provides the opportunity for the individual to be involved with tools to process and send messages to different application, some Java application development, data retrieval and automated test development. Development responsibilities include interface design, development and support of highly available application components using TIBCO technologies. Other responsibilities include 24x7 support, troubleshooting and resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support message integration using TIBCO or Datastage development tools.
  • Develop and support Java/Angular custom application for specific use case.
  • Estimate effort for technical analysis, design and development.
  • Communicate with the business area and other teams to define system interface requirements.
  • Assist others regarding setup and development of integration technologies.
  • Unit and QA testing as well as automation test tool set up and test case development.
  • Analyze and resolve technical issues independently.
  • On-call support 24/7.

Education:

4-year college degree in Information Technology or related field or similar years of experience.

Skills Desired:

  • Training in enterprise web and backend application development or support
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking and the ability to troubleshoot a variety of network devices like computers, printers, mobile devices and more.
  • Training in middleware messaging systems like IBM MQ and Tibco EMS.
  • Training in XML, Web Services, Messaging, IBM WebSphere MQ
  • Experience using Github and Jenkins.
  • Ability to develop and run SQL queries.
  • Strong experience in working with or supporting users or business partners in troubleshooting issues or defining requirements.
  • Relational database experience: DB2, MS SQL Server
  • Experience in Unix/Linux
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and effective problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and resolve issues.
  • Self-motivated; Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to learn new technology and vendor software.
  • Strong collaboration skills, team oriented and ability to work in agile development environment.
  • Mainframe/Cobol experience is a plus
  • Transportation/Logistic Industry experience is a plus

 

Work Conditions:

Environment: Hybrid (2 days onsite/3 days remote per week)

On Call: Yes

Weekend Work: Yes

Travel: 0-2 days per month
