Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Accountable for the coordination and direction of activities involved in ATC overall maintenance and operation of an assigned region.  Focused on improving PTC operational performance and leveraging new technology.

Principal Duties:

  • Directs, plans and coordinates daily Advanced Train Control activities as related to Communications, Signal and PTC operations on a region.
  • Understands how the PTC system works not only from an operations standpoint but from a design/build/configuration and system architecture standpoint.
  • Evaluates and implements future Advanced Train Control uses for PTC and the evolution of technology associated with PTC.
  • Is responsible for coordinating and directing the installation,   implementation and maintenance of PTC technology to ensure compliance with FRA, CFR Regulations. Must have a strong understanding of the Communications, Signal and Networking operations that comprise PTC Operations.
  • Identifies training needs for employees to further PTC understanding.  Helps to develop and deliver PTC training in coordination with the C&S Division Managers, ATC group, and training resources.
  • Provides cross departmental coordination to resolve PTC operational issues.  This includes departments such as Transportation, Network Operations, Operating Rules, and IT.
  • Coordinates with Chief Engineers and Division Managers C&S on implementing the Communications and Signal Safety Program.  Focus includes safety of PTC operations in areas such as compliance with configuration management and periodic testing.
  • Works with Division Managers and Chief Engineers to prepare annual budgets for Communications, Signal and PTC expenses. Identifies operational issues and develops projects for long term capital investments relating to Safety and Service projects.
  • Insures that maintenance programs and testing regimens on the region are in compliance with company and Federal Department of Transportation rules, regulations and standards.


Job Related Experience:
   Minimum Level:  6-10 years
   Preferred Level:  11-15 years

   Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BS)
   Preferred Majors:
      - Engineering - Electronics Engineering
      - Engineering - Electrical / Electro-Mechanical Engineering
