Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Information Systems Development, SAP, Finance, Payroll and Safety Technology to lead strategy, delivery, and support for critical technology solutions. Partnering with Finance and Safety stakeholders to align business priorities with technology strategy and delivery. Responsibilities include SAP S/4HANA Finance, SAP Analytics Cloud, Finance and Payroll integrations, Safety technologies, enterprise integrations, and related applications.

 

The Manager will lead internal teams and strategic partners, ensuring reliable delivery, financial controls, budget management, and business results. Serving as the primary point of accountability for the mobile portfolio with the organization.

Principal Duties

•    Serve as the primary IT partner for Norfolk Southern Finance leadership, developing technology strategies and roadmaps aligned with Finance priorities and enterprise objectives.
•    Provide technology leadership for SAP S/4HANA Finance and associated financial applications and integrations.
•    Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to identify opportunities to simplify financial processes, improve controls, automate manual activities, and maximize the value of the S/4HANA platform.
•    Maintain a prioritized portfolio and product backlog balancing business enhancements, regulatory requirements, technical debt, production stability, and strategic modernization.
•    Lead cross-functional resolution of issues affecting Finance and Payroll processing, particularly during critical financial close and payroll processing periods.
•    Serve as a strategic technology partner to the Norfolk Southern Safety organization, helping translate Safety priorities into technology capabilities and executable initiatives.
•    Lead the technology portfolio supporting Safety programs, applications, mobile capabilities, data, reporting, communications, and operational initiatives.
•    Partner with Safety leadership and operational stakeholders to identify opportunities where technology can help reduce risk, improve employee awareness, strengthen compliance, and support a proactive safety culture.
•    Lead delivery of Safety technology initiatives involving mobile applications, field technology, employee communications, reporting and analytics, workflow automation, and other emerging capabilities.
•    Ensure Safety solutions are designed with appropriate consideration for reliability, usability, data governance, regulatory requirements, and the needs of frontline and craft employees.
•    Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI, mobile, wearable, analytics, and automation capabilities, that can responsibly improve Safety outcomes and operational effectiveness.
•    Establish clear accountability with AMS providers for incident resolution, problem management, enhancement delivery, technical quality, documentation, knowledge management, and continuous improvement.
•    Monitor vendor performance against defined SLAs, KPIs, service quality, capacity, cost, and business outcomes.
•    Develop and manage annual Capital and Operating Expense budget for assigned Finance and Safety technology portfolios
•    Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of technology professionals supporting Finance and Safety.
•    Establish clear goals, accountability, performance expectations, and development plans.
•    Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
•    Ensure the team has the appropriate skills and capacity to support current commitments and future mobile technology needs.
•    Lead multiple project teams that oversee all aspects of the systems development lifecycle,

Job Related Experience

Minimum Level: 3-5 years 
Preferred Level: 6-10 years 
 

Education Preferred  
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

 

Skills Required 
•    5-8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise technology, application delivery, or related disciplines.
•    Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels and manage global or cross-functional teams.
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for business audiences.

 

Skills Preferred
•    3+ years of demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams, complex programs, or enterprise application portfolios.
•    Strong experience with SAP ERP and/or SAP S/4HANA, preferably supporting Finance capabilities.
•    Experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance (FI/CO) and related Finance capabilities.
•    Experience with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) and enterprise reporting governance.
•    Experience with SAP integrations involving HR, Payroll, SuccessFactors, Procurement, and enterprise financial systems.
•    Experience leading technology in a complex, highly regulated, asset-intensive or transportation environment.
•    Experience supporting Safety, field operations, mobile technology, or frontline employee solutions.
•    Understanding of AI-assisted software engineering and opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into mobile applications and development processes.
