Primary Purpose
Directs the development and analysis of revenue, contingent liabilities, complex financial transactions, and accounting research. Responsible for oversight of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for the organization.
Principal Duties
- Directs the preparation of reports and analyses for the Board of Directors, management, the financial community, stockholders, the media, and federal and state regulatory agencies.
- Analyzes and interprets complicated financial transactions to ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Research and analyze new and existing accounting standards and policies.
- Supervises group responsible for accounting for personal injury, environmental liabilities, corporate-owned life insurance, and pension and other postretirement benefits.
- Directs all employee benefit plan reporting and accounting.
- Supervises accounting for bonus and incentive plans.
- Supervises accounting for all aspects of corporate revenue reporting, including regulatory filings and disclosures, revenue projections, and internal revenue analysis.
- Supervises and ensures compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, ensuring appropriate internal controls are in place. Evaluates internal control deficiencies.
- Primary liaison between internal and external auditors.
- Ensures goals and objectives are achieved in compliance with Company policy and applicable government law and regulations.
- Develops and motivates staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
Education/Certifications:
- Minimum Level: Bachelor’s Degree (BBA/BS)
- Preferred Major: Accounting
- Required: CPA
Experience
- Minimum Level: 5-7 years
- Preferred Level: 8-12 years
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of GAAP and experience in application
- Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Analysis for Office
- Experience with Workiva
- Experience with SAP/BPC and/or S4/Group Reporting
- Experience with accounting standards research
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make decisions
- Experience managing staff
- Highly organized, able to prioritize, and strong attention to detail
- Strong work ethic, high integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills necessary to build effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
