This position is an enterprise leadership role that provides Cloud management expertise and leadership for cloud vision and strategy. The role requires an innovative thinker with strong interpersonal skills and a background demonstrating oversight of a cloud infrastructure and architecture, executive leadership, and team management skills. This role requires experience with leading architects and engineers that are engaged in cloud architectural design, governance, and cloud operations support. In this role, the person needs to demonstrate an ability to measure business value and operational benefits realized by the IT project. He/she will be part of the management team and considered a trusted strategic advisor to the business. This position is responsible for the hiring of cloud architect and engineers, team career development, and holding these individuals accountable to successful support of cloud-based architectures and systems in the environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in building and leading technical and architectural design teams and must bring a passion for managing people with a collaborative team-based approach.  This position reports to Director, IT Distributed Systems, who is responsible for infrastructure operations, supporting enterprise computing services, strategic implementation of projects, and maintaining relationships with business partners. It is assumed this individual has at least 5 years’ experience in leading compute infrastructure and architecture activities and teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of architects and engineers responsible for cloud design and architecture, operational support, governance, and strategy and vision development. Develop and implement best practices, policies, and procedures to manage the cloud environment.  
  • Communicate the cloud strategy to IT leadership, IT department, and a broad scope of business partners in the company.
  • Partner with project managers and teams to ensure successful deliverables by applying a structured change management methodology and achieving milestones throughout a project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all cloud architectural and operational documents are created, maintained, and shared appropriately.
  • Track the benefits and costs of cloud use in the environment and report them regularly to senior leadership.
  • Own the program budget planning and forecasts and ensure traceability of program spend.
  • Understand project and service management as it pertains to cloud infrastructure and applications and apply best practices into the organization.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports, supporting and inspiring their development and career growth objectives.


  • The incumbent will have an understanding of cloud architectural principles and strategies and applies these to defining guidelines, rules, and standards to guide enterprise cloud architectural decisions.
  • The incumbent must have the ability encourage effective collaboration with IT application development, Information Security, IT Infrastructure teams and business partners to communicate the current state of cloud strategy, vision, and projects.
  • The candidate must have experience with managing program budget and ensuring costs are properly forecasted and within budget. He/she will need knowledge of cloud cost models and possess the ability to discuss cloud investment benefits to senior leadership.
  • The incumbent will make strategic and tactical recommendations to ensure successful delivery of projects into the cloud. They must possess the ability to make recommendations based on designs and infrastructure in the cloud and on-premise. The individual will possess knowledge of cloud computing, architectural design and implementation, and cloud operational support.
  • The incumbent must have experience with project management which includes resource alignment, understanding project requirements, roles and responsibilities, work processes, and communication and project plans.
  • The incumbent must have communication skills. The individual will work with the Information Security, Infrastructure, and IT Application development departments to ensure that an appropriate standard cloud strategy is established for each applicable infrastructure and application case. The incumbent must also work with others in IT and in other departments to ensure that architectural processes are being followed and that architectural checkpoints are integrated into existing processes.
  • The incumbent must possess leadership capabilities. They will need to possess analytical and problem- solving skills with timely decision-making capabilities. The ability to multitask, prioritize assignments and exert interpersonal and customer service skills will be important. The individual should be highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to see the longterm vision.  
  • The incumbent will possess 5+ years of experience in IT management and leadership. Management in IT operations and architecture is recommended with familiarity in IT service management practices, project management and OCM. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of cloud environments such as Azure, Google and AWS and cloud services (IaaS, Paas, Saas) in both Public and Private cloud environments.
