Primary Purpose:

The compliance investigator plans and performs concurrent investigations and compliance projects. Responsibilities include planning and executing investigations of all allegations of wrongdoing, communicating with management, continuous monitoring for fraud prevention, development, coordination, and implementation of an annual ethics awareness communication and training plan. The investigator builds and cultivates effective business relationships.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Provides coverage for answering the Ethics and Compliance Hotline
  • Determines and communicates with the appropriate department to address hotline complaints if outside of Ethics & Compliance
  • Reviews, documents, and investigates, as appropriate, all allegations of suspected wrongdoing, including theft, fraud or other violations of NS policy or the law
  • Researches and provides company policy advice as appropriate for Hotline requests
  • Accurately reports investigative findings to management and human resources in a timely manner
  • Testifies in formal company hearings and criminal / civil court proceedings
  • Provides input for development of data analysis activities and participates in review to detect fraud
  • Participates in development of online and live training modules and formal communications for corporate-wide distribution on a variety of ethics and compliance topics
  • Presents live and virtual Ethics and Compliance education classes and events
  • Assists the Ethics & Compliance team with the development, launch, and completion of the annual Thoroughbred Code of Ethics questionnaire
  • Assists the Ethics & Compliance team in the review of responses and communication of results to management
  • Supports the department in creating and maintaining internal web content and communications in support of the approved Ethics & Compliance annual communication plan
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships across all departments
  • Seeks appropriate developmental opportunities and continuing education required to obtain and maintain professional certifications and support departmental goals 

 

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 1-2 years

Preferred Level: 3-4 years

 

Education:

Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS)

Preferred Majors:  Accounting, Business Administration, Internal Audit, Business Management, Criminal Justice Finance, Data Analytics

 

Licenses / Certifications:

Preferred: One or more of the following:

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)*
  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) *
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

 

* Compliance Investigators are expected to successfully attain Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) within 12 months of appointment, and successfully attain Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) within 18 months of appointment.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with data extraction, transformation, and analysis tools (Excel, MS Analysis, Spotfire, Alteryx, ACL, SQL, etc.)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Excel, Spotfire, Tableau, etc.)
  • Understanding of NS policies, processes, and controls
  • Experience with admission seeking interviews and techniques
