Norfolk Southern is seeking a self-driven and qualified candidate with familiarity in database administration and programming, python, advanced Unix commands, Microsoft SharePoint, Spotfire BI, Apache Hadoop, and NoSQL databases.
Responsibilities will include assisting Senior database administrators with database changes, SQL and database tuning, workload management, automation and scheduling of tasks, backup monitoring and alerting.
The position will work closely with Team Leads, other Database Administrators, Automation Engineers, and Business intelligence teams.
Other job functions include assisting Senior database/automation engineers in automated deployment of databases using automation tools, Rest API based integration for alerting and automating common tasks, python, shell scripting for automated reporting, and self-service integration of database in Service Now.
Location
This position reports to the Norfolk Southern’ s Headquarters at 650 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta just across from North Avenue MARTA station.
Education: Actively seeking 4-yr College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer science or related field.
Skills Required:
- Familiarity with large-scale database architectures
- Strong experience implementing software and/or solutions in enterprise Linux or Unix environments, including strong experience in shell scripting.
- Strong experience with various enterprise security solutions such as LDAP and Active Directory
- Strong experience with Unix and Database security
- Sound experience with other RDBMS, such as Oracle or MS SQL server.
- Sound experience with source code control methodology and real systems (GitHub).
- Strong understanding of network configuration, devices, protocols, and optimizations
- Strong understanding of Java development, debugging & profiling
- Good troubleshooting skills, understanding of Database capacity, bottlenecks, memory utilization, CPU usage, OS, storage, and networks
- Understanding of on premise and Cloud network architectures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
