Job Description

 

Norfolk Southern is seeking a DevSecOps Architect.   This position will work across the enterprise to define structured solutions for continuous integration and continuous deployment that aligns with technical, operational, and organizational standards.  This position will create a structured solution by observing the broader system environment and supporting an application framework to address the complexities and make recommendations as appropriate.  Partners closely with software development and infrastructure delivery teams and is responsible for building and supporting reliable and maintainable CI/CD platforms inclusive of automated builds, deploys, and releases.  You will work closely with development teams to create the CI/CD Pipeline and be responsible for training and mentoring the team to self-sustain.  You will assist the team in prioritization of the backlog to support this effort.       

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide technical direction for solutions (planning, definition and high-level design) to support an integrated CI/CD and DevOps platform across multiple technologies and a complex ecosystem.
  • Works directly with teams to deploy solutions quickly including automating as necessary using a wide variety of tools.
  • Mentors and trains team members on technical skills and best practices to support CI/CD.
  • Advocates for prioritization of automation in the roadmap.   
  • Define roadmaps and leads the development of CI/CD and DevOps architectures and conducts proof of concepts. 
  • Support and maintain designs in support of DevSecOps and CI/CD
  • Work with internal customers, stakeholders to establish high-level goals for their DevOps initiatives
  • Serve an CI/CD solution process expert leveraging and IDE, source control, testing, code quality coverage, and release management.

Qualifications:

 

  • Must have experience leading the design, planning, and implementation of systems using agile methodologies. 
  • Must have experience with 12 factor application design, infrastructure as a service and microservices. 
  • Demonstrated ability to train others on version control, continuous integration, code quality coverage, continuous deployment, test and release management. 
  • Must be able to produce architectures designs and roadmaps.
  • Experience with automation, orchestration, and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, etc.)
  • Ability to enable development teams to leverage cloud-native architectures with new and existing application.  Understanding of a wide variety of technologies and cloud services (particularly AWS and Azure)
  • Working understanding of coding and scripting
  • Knowledge of the best practices of IT Operations in an always-up, always available service model
  • Strong knowledge of foundational infrastructure areas such as networking
  • Strong automation skills (tool agnostic) and the ability to drive initiatives to automate processes.
  • Effective cross-functional leadership skills: working with engineering and operational teams to ensure systems are secure, scalable, and reliable.
  • Configuration management solutions to meet the needs of application deployment and management.
  • Ability to review deployment and operational environments, i.e. understand how to reduce failure, troubleshoot issues across the entire infrastructure stack, expand monitoring capabilities, and manage technical operations.
  • Previous experience implementing continuous delivery and DevSecOps solutions a must.
  • Experience building solutions that move data between on-prem and cloud-based solutions.
  • Expert level experience with Jenkins is a must. 
  • Expert skill in any of the following tools and systems GIT, SonarQube, Nexus a plus.
  • Strong operational experience in Linux/Unix and Windows environments and the use of scripting to manage these environments
  • Significant experience utilizing container-based solutions using Kubernetes (preferably OpenShift)

Education, Experience, and Knowledge

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, 3-5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum 5 years of experience with IT delivery preferably with strong focus on automated delivery and DevSecOps
