Job Description

Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking résumés for one mid-to-advanced EDI administrator.


The successful candidate will become a member of the Integration Services group within Norfolk Southern’s Information Technology Department.  This candidate will be expected to serve as a team member in the EDI Team in a complex, mission-critical computing environment spanning primarily Unix/Linux with limited Mainframe technologies.  The work associated with this position will include new EDI development and enhancements utilizing the existing EDI infrastructure and will also involve support activities. In addition, the candidate must be well rounded, possess maturity, vision, and a depth of experience that allows for grasping of issues quickly and making educated, critical judgments/decisions in the absence of complete information.


This candidate must be able to work in a 24x7 environment with on-call duties. The candidate will be expected to interface with customers, internal and external business partners, third-party suppliers and vendors; assist in designing the corporate EDI and B2B architecture as required for installed and proposed systems; adhere to established change control policies and prescribed procedures; and produce documentation and procedures regarding the proper use and operation of the corporate EDI and B2B infrastructure. 


4-yr College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.

Experience Required:

  • 2+ years of X12 EDI
  • 2+ years of C/C++ development
  • 2+ years of SQL experience
  • 2+ years EDI development, mapping, and Implementation in a corporate environment
  • 2+ years of IBM Sterling - B2B Integrator Administration

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting experience
  • Experience with VB6 would be a plus
  • File/Data communication experience: Secure FTP (SFTP or FTP/S), Websphere MQ
  • Experience with Globalscape EFT
