Job Description

Norfolk Southern Corporation is currently seeking System Analysts for permanent positions in the Enterprise Application Services group located in Atlanta, GA (Midtown).  The successful candidates must have extensive technical and system design experience and must demonstrate an affinity for seeking, evaluating and coming up to speed on new technologies. This position provides the opportunity to be involved in new system infrastructure design as well as small to medium enhancements to existing systems supporting vital corporate operations.  The candidates will participate in all phases of the systems development life cycle and will independently and collaboratively write and review system requirements, design specifications and support guides.  Other responsibilities include 24x7 on-call rotational support for mission-critical applications and problem trouble-shooting and resolution.  This position provides the opportunity to be trained and using the latest methodologies in ETL and Master Data Management (MDM) tools for our enterprise scale database, reporting and data warehouse needs. These products are essential in supporting our strategic system modernization efforts.

• General understanding of installing/configuring/optimizing ETL and MDM platforms
• Linux and windows server administration including shell scripting
• Enterprise in systems management including some exposure to disaster recovery procedures
• Security and networking best practices for enterprise systems including load balancing/fault tolerance design
• Experience with relational databases including SQL Server, DB2 or Oracle and SQL scripting
• Good documentation and communication skills.
• Effective independent and team player and self-starter with high adaptability to new technologies


• Hands-on experience with IBM Infosphere Datastage, IBM Infosphere MDM, Talend Open Studio, Microsoft SSIS, Informatica PowerCenter, Oracle Data Integrator etc.
• Effective independent and team player and self-starter with high adaptability to new technologies.
• 3+ years working with vendors on SOW projects and working through vendor support tickets
• 3+ years’ experience deploying enterprise scale applications and services
• 3+ years’ experience setting up security policies, SSO, VIPs etc.
• 3+ years’ experience defining and managing system requirements through the system development life cycle including troubleshooting performance and network latency issues.
• Working general knowledge of:
o Jenkins or any compatible CI/CD automation methodologies
o API management
o Message queues
o Enterprise bus architecture
o Container technology
o DevOps platform
o HP ALM, Performance Center, Unified Functional Testing
o Microsoft Team Foundation Server


Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field
