About the Role:

Norfolk Southern is seeking a proactive and analytical Fleet Planning & Data Intern to join our Equipment Distribution team for Spring 2026. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fleet strategy, data-driven decision-making, and stakeholder engagement within the transportation industry.

You’ll support efforts to enhance fleet productivity, monitor performance trends, and help build a more proactive approach to managing railcar distribution across our network.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Fleet Planning & Monitoring

  • Assist in defining and categorizing fleet types in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Support the development of proactive monitoring tools to track fleet utilization and productivity.

Power BI Reporting & Exception Management

  • Generate and maintain reports from Power BI dashboards to identify performance exceptions.
  • Communicate findings and recommended actions to stakeholder groups across operations and planning.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align fleet definitions and performance metrics.
  • Help facilitate feedback loops between data insights and operational decision-making.

Process Improvement Support

  • Identify opportunities to streamline fleet tracking and reporting processes.
  • Contribute to automation and data integrity initiatives within the Equipment Distribution team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate insights clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
