Primary Purpose:

Manages the research and detailed analysis of economic trends as they relate to Norfolk Southern’s performance.  Translates external economic data into actionable data for Norfolk Southern’s Commercial Marketing team.  Develops and maintains the economic outlook for Norfolk Southern’s Chief Commercial Officer.  Acts as an internal consultant for Norfolk Southern’s business group to identify and research new market opportunities.

 

Principal Duties

  • Analyzes the business, competitive, and economic climates, and their potential effects on the business of Norfolk Southern.
  • Stays current on economic seminars, webcasts, and research writings from leading economists and external economic data providers. 
  • Synthesizes the latest economic commentary and data in presentations and written reports to be shared with senior leadership and NS Marketing.  
  • Leverages key data subscriptions to enhance research findings and provide data-driven feedback on the economy.
  • Prepares key presentations and materials for the Chief Commercial Officer of Norfolk Southern.
  • Monitors Norfolk Southern's performance to internal forecasts, analyzes variances, and advises marketing groups of significant deviations.
  • Conducts the annual customer survey to measure customer satisfaction and engagement.
  • Assists Norfolk Southern’s Commercial Marketing team with business development opportunities and market research

 

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 3-5 years Preferred Level: 6-10 years

Preferred Level: Master's Degree (MBA, MS, MA, BBA)
