Job Description

Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking resumes for an infrastructure architect at our mid-town Atlanta location for a hybrid work schedule consisting of 2 days in the office and 3 days remote.

 

The ideal candidate will have core duties of designing and implementing complex computer systems to effectively meet the needs of the organization. They will coordinate with all areas of the organization to ensure that systems are implemented optimally and to identify areas for integrating new technologies, hardware, and IT solutions.  They will recommend alternative technologies and improvements to enhance the information systems in support of organizational goals, design and review processes for new systems and technologies, develop and document proposed technical designs for integration and implementation in the environment.

 

Education

Bachelor’s Degree required, IT Major or engineering with IT minor

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze business requirements to develop technical systems solutions and their frameworks.
  • Perform system modeling, analysis, and planning.
  • Develop technology roadmaps for Automation, Networking, Cloud, Infrastructure, & Security.
  • Develop and document infrastructure in collaboration with the network, storage, compute, and database teams
  • Design system, network, and storage architecture including subsystems, interfaces, and dependencies
  • Articulate infrastructure alternatives and their associated trade-offs and risks
  • Advise on optimal approaches to infrastructure and solution design
  • Develop a framework for reusable infrastructure components
  • Routinely work with IT management to devise plans for future IT requirements of the organization

Skills Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of application and middleware hosting and performance tuning on Windows, Linux, mainframe, and AIX servers
  • Knowledge and hands on technical experience with public, private, and hybrid cloud technologies and providers such as Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud
  • Experience with advanced network technologies such as network virtualization, software defined networking, traffic management, and load-balancing
  • Experience with virtualization, container technologies, and hypervisors
  • Familiarity with industry standard security requirements and designs
  • Understanding of converged and hyper converged infrastructure
  • Experience designing, architecting, and estimating costs of infrastructure for enterprise workloads
  • Experience modeling and forecasting resource consumption, growth, and capacity requirements
  • Technical experience with IP and storage network design and implementation
  • Experience and understanding of SAN and local storage technologies
  • Experience with datacenter and disaster recovery methodologies
  • Previous work experience as a technical architect
