Job Description
Norfolk Southern Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, seeks a highly motivated and qualified candidate for internship with strong development and analytical skills with proficiency in one or more of the following: PowerShell, Windows O/S, Web Hosting, Basic Network Architecture, FTP Protocols, and SSL certificate administration. This individual will work in our IT operations environment supporting application development teams in a highly available and business critical environment.
The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude with excellent communication and analytical skills with a focus on results. This person must also be able to work closely with business partners and other cross-functional IT teams to maintain a reliable and secure server environment.
As a part of our Integration Services – Windows team, you will take part in code deployments, security patch remediation, sFTP job configurations, SSL certificate renewals, and windows server log review and troubleshooting. Our ticketing system will be your primary method of organizing your workload along with collaborating with your team of fellow engineers. You will be involved in IT projects where needed and help provide efficient solutions to complex business needs.
Education
Actively seeking a 4-yr college degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics
Responsibilities
- SSL Certificate renewal
- Follow change management procedures
- Work with applications teams to troubleshoot server issues
- Deploy web code to DEV and QA environments
- Remediate server vulnerabilities
- Attend planning/troubleshooting meetings
- Resolve tickets in a timely manner
- Professional communication with other business groups
- Continuously look for ways to improve and enforce best practices
Skills
Required:
- The ability to enhance, customize, and troubleshoot windows systems
- Basic understand of networking
- Knowledge of SSL port 443, 80
- Navigate and decipher windows event logging
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of load balancing methodology
- PowerShell scripting
- Intermediate understanding of web hosting
- Intermediate understanding FTP protocols

Relocation assistance is not provided, but Norfolk Southern does offer a Living Stipend of $850/month, which is taxed, to those who qualify.
