Primary Purpose:

Labor Relations plays an essential role as a subject matter expert in labor and employee relations. This position is critical for fostering positive labor-management partnerships, ensuring consistent and effective administration of collective bargaining agreements across craft unions, and supporting complex negotiations that are critical to operational continuity. The role also provides expert guidance on the labor implications of daily operational decisions, helping to proactively manage risk and align labor strategy with the unique demands of railroad operations and long-term business goals.

Principal Duties

•    Handles appeals of claims and grievances and disputes involving collective bargaining agreements for crafts under jurisdiction. 
•    Prepares arbitration briefs and acts as oral advocate for managements position in front of arbitrators.
•    Prepares summary analysis and recommendations in discipline cases.
•    Conducts research on labor agreements and prior National Railroad Adjustment Board decisions.
•    Provides advice and counsel to line supervisors.
•    Presents Carrier's position in arbitration cases.
•    Interacts with general chairmen and handles claim conferences.

Job Related Experience

Minimum Level: 1-2 years 
Preferred Level: 3-5 years 

 

Education 


•    Bachelor's degree is required. 
•    Degree majors in Political Science, Economics, Industrial Relations, Organization Psychology, Personnel Management, Pre Law, HR Analytics or Business Administration is preferred.  

 

Skills Required 


•    1-2 years experience in Labor Relations or Railroad Operations.  
•    Experience or exposure to collective bargaining, grievance process, contract administration within labor relations and union environments. 
 

Skills Desired 


•    3+ years of HR, Labor or Employee Relations experience in complex labor relations matters within a unionized environment. 
•    Knowledge and understanding of political government environments, legal analysis, contractual research, or HR analytics.  
•    CLRP Certified Labor Relations Professional preferred.
