Job Description

The Legal Technology and Analytics Analyst will support Norfolk Southern’s Legal Operations Team by advancing development of legal technology tools and converting business data into insights used for business decision-making across the Norfolk Southern Law Division.

Norfolk Southern’s Legal Operations Team supports the Law Division by helping align its work to corporate and division objectives by applying business and technical practices to the delivery of legal services. Legal Operations provides the strategic planning, financial management, project management, and technology expertise that enables legal professionals to focus on providing legal advice.

Principal Duties:

  • Develop and implement technology solutions to promote efficiencies and data driven decision making throughout the Law Division.
  • Implement low code technology process solutions through SharePoint and Power Automate.
  • Develop modifications and improvements on the ebilling and matter management platform.
  • Provide management with recommendations for the use of analytical models and decision support systems to improve business processes, increase revenue, and reduce costs.
  • Effectively utilize statistical, data mining, machine learning, and operations research techniques and computer science skills to deliver advanced analytics and decision support systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement by using decision tools to develop project proposals and to manage projects through to completion.
  • Provide insight into leading analytics practices and produce new and creative analytics solutions.


Required: Bachelor’s 

Preferred Level: Master’s

Preferred Majors:

Business Analytics, Computer and Information Sciences, Engineering – Statistics, Mathematical Sciences - Applied Mathematics, Data Science

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Advanced machine learning techniques and algorithms
  • Data visualization tools, e.g. Tableau or Spotfire
  • Knowledge in R.
  • Basic understanding HTML, object-oriented concepts, & scripting languages such as Groovy, Java, and SQL

Preferred Certification:

  • Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma Certification, a plus
  • PMI Certified PMP, a plus
