Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Serve as the lead financial and operational management analyst for the Strategic Program office.
 

Principal Duties:

  • Develops, maintains and communicates detailed project and operational financial models for strategic programs and the associated projects.
  • Develops, maintains and communicates detailed program metrics to measure operationally focused project efforts and impacts of deliverables upon those metrics on an ongoing basis. 
  • Creates and presents executive management presentations and reports.
  • Establishes and maintains project collaboration with strategic project teams.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with project management teams across the corporation with regards to project financial impact analysis.
  • Collaborates with finance, accounting and operational departments to develop consistent financial and operational reports for strategic projects.
  • Performs financial analyses at multiple levels of complexity which may include calculations of rate of return, depreciation, working capital, investments, budgeting, cost analysis, and financial and expense performance comparisons.
  • Analyzes financial and operational results of project efforts and performs detailed trend analysis.
  • Identifies and tracks variances of financial and operational results of project efforts.
  • Experience with accounting and budgeting as well developing advanced cost and financial models is required.   
  • Facilitates and leads cross-department meetings, with all levels of the organization.
  • Position will be a member of the Strategic Program Office and report to Director Strategic Program Office.

Job Related Experience:

  • Minimum Level:  7+ years transportation or mechanical operations
  • Minimum Level:  7+ years accounting and finance
  • Preferred Level:  10+ years’ progressive experience with transportation and mechanical operations and associated business process measurement.  

Education:   

Preferred Level:  Bachelor’s Degree   

Preferred Majors: 

  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Business Administration
  • Engineering (any discipline)

 Licenses / Certifications:

  • Preferred:  CPA, Six Sigma Green Belt

Technical Skills:

  • Financial modeling of project and business areas including IRR, ROI, etc.
  • Modeling and measurement of business process and business areas
  • Capital and Expense budget forecasting and tracking
  • Expert level Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word
  • Six Sigma process measurement/re-engineering
  • Extensive experience with NS Business Intelligence tools

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of transportation rail operations as well as mechanical, marketing and customer service business operations.
  • NS AFE development and tracking
  • SAP reporting tools
  • Problem solving, Project Management, Process improvement
  • Excellent executive presentation abilities
