Job Description

Positive Train Control (PTC), one of many new safety measures mandated by the U.S. Federal Government, is
designed to help prevent train-to-train collisions, derailments, and other human-caused accidents. The Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 mandates that seven Class I railroads as well as several other freight, commuter and short line railroads install PTC on roughly 70,000 miles of track used to transport hazardous materials and Passengers by December 31, 2018

4-yr College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field

The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
-Developing and maintaining expertise in the technical domain of the PTC system
-Administer and maintain the PTC system using various products and services for railroad industry
-Review PTC whitepapers, CAF’s and draft or assist with any documentation needed for PTC 
-Pro-actively monitor PTC applications and mitigate risk. Monitor all performance metrics for various production systems and identify root cause for all technical issues and recommend solutions
-Support Lab and Field Testing of PTC back office and integrated applications 
-Participate in periodic meetings with vendor for defect and release management
-Maintain support processes, identify issues, and resolve problems relating to PTC applications and infrastructure. 
-Monitor and ensure PTC services and components meet agreed upon performance targets and service levels
-Document Design Plan, Implementation Guide, Design Requirements, Configuration Management Guide, Design Architecture and Engineering Development Guide and User Guide to administer all the PTC back office systems
-Administer, Support and Maintenance Positive Train Control (PTC) Back Office Systems.
-Triage and analysis of production issues related to PTC train operations. Investigate and resolve issues to resume train operations.
-Configuration and support of vendor products like Back Office Segments, Application Gateways in support of PTC operations
-Enable federation with foreign railroads and coordinate interoperability testing with federated railroads
-Design and implement PTC related security features 
-Administer PTC ITCM (Interoperable Train Control Messaging System) system, including federation to other railroads.
-Design and implement PTC monitoring tools  to provide more insight on the PTC systems
-Participate in PTC Industry meeting with other railroads
-Management of all the security artifacts related to PTC systems using PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)
-Administer and maintain the PTC Systems Management products
-Communicate with the business area and other teams to define System Interface requirement
-Mentor others regarding setup and development of integration technologies
-Occasional travel may be required


-At least 7 years of solid professional work experience in development and support of applications  
-Working knowledge of current industry best practices on design patterns 
-Solid grasp of web and backend application development frameworks 
-Experience in UNIX or Linux
-Relational Database Experience (preferred: DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server)
-Computer Systems Integration
-Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills on highly complex problems; technical agility

-Enterprise Service Bus experience 
-Experience in the following: XML, Web Services, JavaScript, CSS, AMQP, Messaging, IBM WebSphere MQ
-NoSQL database experience
-HTML5 experience
-Transportation/Logistic Industry experience
