Job Description:

The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting in the Disaster Recovery, Business Recovery, and General Office Emergency Response programs for Norfolk Southern. The candidate will evaluate, recommend, and implement new incident management processes, and support existing processes by developing and conducting training and response exercises. The Business Recovery Analyst will be responsible for conducting risk analysis on Norfolk Southern’s critical facilities and business processes, review and exercise existing recovery plans, and provide guidance and education to departments to aid in identifying and remediating identified risks.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Conduct Business Impact Analysis across Norfolk Southern to identify risk areas, taking into account potential impacts to customer service, safety of operations, and corporate reputation.
  • Work with senior management and external emergency response agencies to develop and exercise incident response procedures to ensure Norfolk Southern’s ability to properly respond during times of disaster or other critical incidents.

Job Qualifications:

Candidates must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization. Candidates must possess excellent organization/project management skills with the ability to progress multiple projects and activities concurrently. Candidates must possess a good understanding of Rail Industry business processes.

 

The successful candidate will be become a member of the Information Security / Business Recovery Planning team within Norfolk Southern’s Information Technology department. The candidate must possess maturity, vision, and a depth of experience that allows for identifying risks and recommending solutions. The candidate will interface with all NS departments to assess risk and assist in developing recovery and incident response plans in line with Corporate Policy. The candidate will be expected to lead General Office Emergency Response Teams, working with senior management to develop response procedures and conduct drills to exercise those procedures.

  • Knowledge of Risk Management and Business Continuity best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization / project management skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Ability to interact comfortably at all levels within the organization

Skills Preferred

  • Minimum 5 years experience in the Rail Industry
  • Business Continuity Manager Certification
  • Experience in both IT and non­IT departments within Norfolk Southern
  • Experience in developing and delivering training material

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Risk Management, Information Systems, or a related field.
