Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the management of a large portfolio of NS environmental remediation projects of varying complexity throughout the railroad system footprint, ensuring cost-efficient compliance with regulatory obligations and appropriate reserve estimates.


Responsibilities and Duties:
•    Manage multiple tasks and handle multiple competing priorities efficiently and responsibly to effectively oversee a portfolio of diverse environmental projects.
•    Assess regulatory requirements and establish remediation strategies.
•    Provide strategic project oversight and expert technical input on complex projects, with ability to make decisions swiftly and strategically under often-shifting circumstances.
•    Review and approve project related technical documents and deliverables.
•    Evaluate characteristics for remediation projects, remediation system design, and lead regulatory negotiations.
•    Conduct project performance reviews and project team meetings with consultants.
•    Develop and manages project costs, estimates, schedules, and other project management tools, including reserve estimates and reports to management on reserves and status of projects.
•    Provide information on remediation projects for corporate financial and legal reporting.
•    Support due diligence efforts on potential property transactions.
•    Promote and advance policies, procedures, key performance indicators, and other mechanisms to track and verify effective management of remediation projects.
•    Manage remediation related document library and repositories.
•    Ability to research problems and think creatively to develop solutions; be self-directed; think strategically; be compliance focused.
•    Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and build relationships with clients, vendors, and partners as well as with personnel at the community, facility, and executive staff levels.
•    Ability to build relationships with clients, vendors, and partners.


•    Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Geophysics, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
•    5-7+ years of work-related experience. Experience should include: investigation, reporting, remediation, and management of remediation sites with varying types of contaminants or large volumes of a similar type work. 
•    Must possess excellent communication, teamwork, analytical, organizational, technical writing, and service skills.
•    Environmental regulatory knowledge (with understanding of waste characterization and remediation concepts and regulations), including work with regulatory agencies (general interactions, negotiations and/or audits).
•    Project management experience that includes training and experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other information databases.
