Job Description:

Primary Purpose: Manages, prepares and monitors Operating Division capital budgets and expenditures, providing support and analysis to Operating Division senior management regarding financial issues.

Principal Duties:

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Create departmental annual budgets and monthly forecasts. Serving as a subject matter expert to provide guidance on projects and their benefits.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models and forecasts.
  • Assist in the preparation of a variety of reports for the leadership team including prepping and submitting journal entries and providing detailed cost analysis.
  • Design, install, maintain, and operate cost control systems and standards for the Operations department with the objective of controlling expenditures and maximizing use of the assets for the corporation.
  • Initiate and coordinate special cost studies for a particular area of responsibility to advise management of lower cost alternatives or problem areas.
  • Prepare capital and billable construction estimates for major track rehabilitation projects and compare actual spending to estimated cost at a granular level.
  • Develop presentations, reports, and dashboards for all levels of Management within Operations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, and recommend and implement an actionable plan.
  • Resolve complex, multi-faceted problems with minimal oversight.
  • Manage projects horizontally and vertically across departments to achieve objectives which add value to the company and support the attainment of corporate goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between Operations and Finance, Accounting, and Audit.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 3 - 5 years

Preferred Level: 5- 7 years

 

Education:

Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BS, BA) or Master’s

Preferred Majors:  Accounting, Finance, Business Management

 

Licenses / Certifications: None

 

Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Advanced SAP (Project, Accounting, and Material Modules)
  • Power Plan – Power Plant

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Analytical Thinking, Thoroughness, Accuracy, Cross-checks work and develops crosschecks where none exist
  • Takes ownership of responsibilities and shows initiative.
  • Communication Skills (Verbal and Written) – organized, logical, clear, strong grammatical and editorial skills
  • Able to succeed in an open, small team environment with a focus on exceptional customer service
