Job Description

Primary Purpose:

This position will be responsible for coordinating responses to requests for information from various taxing authorities auditing the company and its subsidiaries. The position will work with various members of the Tax Department or other departments to respond to requests for information. In addition, the incumbent will performs advanced tax compliance work and provides analysis in support of various federal, state, local, and international income and franchise tax activities for Norfolk Southern and its subsidiaries. It is expected that the incumbent's time will be split between audit coordination and tax compliance as the business needs dictate.

Principal Duties:

  • Coordinates responses to requests for information from various taxing authorities auditing the company and its subsidiaries
  • work with various members of the Tax Department or other departments to respond to those requests
  • Responsible for directing income and employment Tax notices sent to Norfolk Southern and its subsidiaries by the IRS and Railroad Retirement Board to the parties and resolving matters as necessary
  • Develops support for Tax audits as assigned
  • Provides Expert analysis of the income statement, balance sheet, and business activities to determine and report proper tax liabilities
  • prepares and Reviews Federal, state, local and International income and franchise tax activities returns
  • Assists in Tax Planning, Tax litigation, and Tax Accounting projects and analyses or other special studies as assigned.
