Job Title: Senior Technology Engineer – Application Development
Norfolk Southern Corporation seeks a Senior Technology Engineer – Application Development based in Atlanta, Georgia. This position will be responsible for developing cutting-edge web applications and solving challenging business needs in order to support Norfolk Southern’s customer portal. This position will investigate design approaches, prototype new solutions, evaluate technical feasibility, and support existing applications. This position will be responsible for all aspects of development, including design, development, testing, and maintenance of key systems. This position will work in a dynamic environment to deliver a forward-looking user experience while maintaining high-quality software.
Job Duties:
- Deliver innovative and engaging web applications using the latest software technologies.
- Fulfill several project requests simultaneously while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate closely with the product owners, Scrum masters, development teams, and stakeholders.
- Work with outside vendors and external teams to collect and confirm business and technical requirements.
- Identify design problems and devise solid technical solutions.
- Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
- Understand the requirements and develop detailed software designs.
- Improve and enforce best practices, coding, and UI/UX standards.
- Conduct system wide requirement analysis and work effort estimations.
- Provide accurate and detailed weekly task reports.
- Guide and mentor junior developers.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related, relevant field (equivalent foreign degree accepted).
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with Java and Angular (TypeScript) technologies in an information systems environment. This experience must include at least three (3) years of experience:
- Utilizing data modeling and database programming skills (SQL Server);
- Providing troubleshooting assistance and requirements to infrastructure teams related to networks, firewalls, load balancers, and concepts;
- Utilizing agile methodologies (Scrum); and
- Working with UML and design patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Build, manage, and foster a team-oriented environment;
- Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment; and
- Troubleshoot issues and provide solutions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Java, including data structures, algorithms, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures;
- Angular 8 or newer;
- Web services software architecture and design (REST/SOAP), including security-based implementations;
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks;
- Continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Nexus, JUnit, SonarQube, Maven, Gradle, Ant, SVN, GIT);
- Tricentis – Tosca (test automation);
- RedHat OpenShift environment; and
- Infrastructure systems (servers, systems administration, and UNIX/Linux scripting skills).
