Job Description

Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking a Senior Technology Engineer - .NET/C# based in Atlanta, Georgia.  Individuals in this position will collaborate in a team environment to design and build web applications used by Norfolk Southern customers and employees.  This position will design, support, and develop applications for unit train, industrial products, and intermodal car distribution.  The individuals in this position will have a critical role in converting business requirements into functional software design and patterns.  These individuals will utilize knowledge of .NET and C# technologies to drive projects while exercising independent judgment and discretion. This position requires domestic travel approximately 5% of the time.

Job Duties

  • Deliver innovative web applications using the latest software technologies;
  • Work with business partners and outside vendors to collect and confirm project business requirements;
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders;
  • Identify design problems and design technical solutions;
  • Conduct system wide requirement analysis and work effort estimations;
  • Understand the requirements and ability to develop detailed software designs;
  • Utilize best practices and coding standards;
  • Participate in peer-reviews and provide feedback;
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior developers;
  • Provide accurate and detailed weekly task reports;
  • Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, enhance, and document components developed by self and others in accordance with the requirements and detailed design; and
  • Work both independently and collaboratively on projects.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, or a related, relevant field (equivalent foreign degrees accepted).
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience working with .NET and C# technologies to design and develop sophisticated applications.  This experience must include at least seven (7) years of experience:
    • Developing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and updating .NET-based applications;
    • Utilizing data modeling and database programming skills (such as DB2 and SQL Server);
    • Providing requirements for infrastructure and troubleshooting assistance related to infrastructure, such as networks, firewalls, load balancers, and concepts; 
    • Implementing transaction and management and persistence using standard operating environment (SOE) frameworks (such as Entity Framework); 
    • Utilizing agile methodologies (Scrum); and
    • Working with and utilizing Model View Controller (MVC) frameworks and design patterns.
  • Demonstrated ability to: 
    • Build, manage, and foster a team-oriented environment; and
    • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: 
    • Web services software architecture and design (REST/SOAP), including security based implementations;
    • Data modeling and database programming;
    • Continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, Junit, Tricentis, and GIT;
    • Windows Communication foundation (WCF) services, including data structures, algorithms, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures; and
    • Infrastructure systems (servers, systems administration, and unix/linux scripting skills).
