Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Norfolk Southern utilizes a growing fleet of automated track inspection systems in revenue service, with an expanding array of sensors and capabilities. Data generated by these systems requires timely analysis by knowledgeable professionals leveraging automation and artificial intelligence tools in conjunction with their subject matter expertise. Analysis of the ATI data is conducted in an office setting by this position. Frequent communication of findings with a variety of front-line field employees, dispatching personnel, and mechanical department employees as well as with varying levels of management, is a core function of the position. Report generation, data quality management, and coordination of routing and system health maintenance are additional tasks which are routinely performed.
Responsibilities
- Analyze sensor data obtained from a variety of automated track inspection sources.
- Analyze historical data from a variety of sources for trend analysis and ad hoc reporting.
- Verbally communicate critical findings with field and dispatch personnel for prompt handling.
- Analyze sensor data and field feedback to assess system health and refine system performance.
- Coordinate routing and system deployment and maintenance activities with relevant personnel.
Education
- College-level engineering courses preferred but not required

Skills and Abilities
- Must possess 49 CFR 213.7 qualification, including associated training and experience requirements
- Critical thinking, attention to detail, and decision making
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, both in-person and via telephone
