Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Provides oversight and handling of the ~56K NS owned and leased freight cars. Assists in the disposition of all bad-ordered NS freight cars on system and foreign lines, as well as foreign cars bad-ordered on NS lines. Work with Fleet to manage b/o’s at contact shops.
Principal Duties:
- Provides oversight for the scheduled maintenance and repairs of unit, ballast, rail and other special trains that are operating across the system. Also, works with field locations to oversee the car programs at NS and contract shops.
- Works closely with the Mechanical Department, Car Distribution to develop and implement procedures to move bad-ordered cars safely and efficiently to home shops and contract shops.
- Assists in ensuring current repair, modification, retirement, and lease turn-back programs are completed on a timely basis, with an emphasis on reducing transportation cost and out of service time.
- Coordinates with other railroads and car owner disposition of their cars when bad ordered on NS lines.
- Reviews contract shop repair estimates for accuracy, including lease returns and rebuttal billing
- Reviews Joint Inspection Certificates (JIC) for endorsement in settling damage claims
- Review freight Invoicing
- Represent NS on Damaged Defective Ccar Tracking & AAR Arbitration Rules Committees
