Primary Purpose
The Senior General Material Supervisor plays a critical role in managing inventory levels, warehouse operations, logistics, trucking, and SAP maintenance to support the Northern Region’s locomotive and railcar operations within the Enterprise Resources organization. This role is essential to ensuring seamless collaboration between Mechanical, Sourcing, and other Enterprise Resources pillars, enabling optimal inventory practices to meet operational needs while reducing the number of locomotives and railcars held for materials. The incumbent must exhibit strong analytical abilities, organizational management and leadership skills, and foster a transformational mindset within the team to drive continuous improvement.
- Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, maintain inventory targets, and manage personnel at shops within assigned responsibility.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Distribution Centers to assist with material transportation and support shop production by reducing stagnant materials, eliminating obsolete components and enforcing inventory controls. In tandem, work closely with Mechanical operations within the territory to reduce the number of locomotive and railcars held for materials while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
- Training: Provide training to field teams on effective Inventory Management practices, warehouse safety operation, and transformational mindset.
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure adherence to all procedures and instructions related to environmental standards.
- Quality Control: Address quality issues, ensuring that all work performed at locations meets organizational requirements. Improve Warranty Orders processing and ensure refunds are settled against the respective cost assignments
- Regulatory Compliance: Guarantee that employees perform work within the parameters of Federal, State, and Corporate Safety Regulations. Stay fully familiarized with these statutes and rules.
- Audits and Inspections: Conduct frequent visits to shops to perform material and safety audits. Monitor, analyze and report inventory cycle counting efforts to improve inventory turn ratios

- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel frequently to shop locations for audits and team engagement.
