Benefits Data Analyst

Primary Purpose:

Assist with the administration of health, welfare and retirement benefit plans for employees, retirees and their dependents.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Acts as a liaison for day-to-day interactions with plan administrators and third-party benefits vendors.
  • Resolves editing and data file transfer errors and inconsistencies between Norfolk Southern systems and provider systems.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal acts and regulations including:
  • ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Railroad Retirement Act, Pension Protection Act, ACA, and Internal Revenue Code.
  • Ensures that benefits programs are carried out in accordance with Norfolk Southern's policies and procedures.
  • Provides assistance for inquiries and problems associated with benefits.
  • Collects and analyzes data necessary to complete compliance activities (5500s, audits, etc.), employee mailings, and vendor invoicing.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports on employee benefit data for planning purposes
  • Assists with claims data auditing and reporting.
  • Processes credits and invoices for payment to Human Resources vendors using SAP, Electronic Funds Transfer, and other means.
  • Supports implementation of benefits programs.

Education:

   Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BS)

Licenses / Certifications:

   Required:  None listed

   Preferred:  Certified Benefits Professional®; Certified Employee Benefits Specialist® (CEBS)

 

Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Powerpoint, and Word.
  • Expertise in Excel with creating formulas in spreadsheets, pivot tables, and v- lookup.
  • Previous experience with HRIS systems (SAP, Workday, Peoplesoft, etc.)
