Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Plans, develops,  implements and administers compensation programs, plans and policies that are competitive with contemporary compensation practice and is responsive to Norfolk Southern’s short- and long-range goals.

 

Principal Duties:

- Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation programs, plans, and policies including but not limited to Long-Term Incentives, Annual Incentive, and the Merit Program, recommending quality, cost-effective revisions and/or additions consistent with compensation trends and corporate objectives. 

 

- Administer the annual non-agreement and executive compensation programs for Norfolk Southern and participating subsidiaries.
 

- Supervises the participation in, and review of, salary surveys to ensure corporate compensation objectives are achieved. Benchmarks NS’ compensation programs against peers to ensure NS’ competitiveness in the market. Utilizes compensation survey results to evaluate NS’ pay practices, including but not limited to employee salaries, salary ranges, annual incentive opportunity levels, and long-term incentive award levels.   Uses public filings to compare NS’ compensation programs against market peers.  Identifies variances, recommends and, as needed, implements modifications.

 

- Serves as the subject matter expert on projects and implementations related to compensation and is responsible for synchronizing requirements from Law, Payroll, IT, and other departments.

 

- Manages corporate recognition programs

 

- Provides effective advice and counsel to departmental management on compensation program and plans.
 

 - Evaluates all NS non-agreement positions, including those in the Management Incentive Plan.

 

- Writes program documents, employee communications, and contributes to the Proxy Statement.

 

 - Provides supervision and direction to the Compensation Analyst in the performance of his or her duties.
