Job Description

 

Primary Purpose:

Provides timely and accurate track geometry and rail wear data to the Engineering department for derailment prevention and for scheduling track maintenance and rail replacement.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Manages the track geometry car section of Engineering and ensures that trained operators are available, that data acquisition equipment is functional and calibrated, and that operation is efficient.
  • Converts track geometry, rail wear, and machine vision data into information pertinent to track maintenance activities and derailment prevention.
  • Ensures prudent purchase and maintenance of the data acquisition systems for two research cars used in over-the-road testing.
  • Provides video images of Norfolk Southern right-of-way to any requesting department.

 

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 6-10 years

Preferred Level: 11-15 years

 

Education:

Preferred Level: Master's Degree (MS, BS)

  • Engineering - Civil Engineering
  • Engineering - Systems Engineering
  • Engineering - Materials Engineering

 

Licenses / Certifications:

Required: Six Sigma Green Belt

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer License
