Your Role:
As a Rail Transportation Management Trainee, you'll undergo comprehensive leadership and railroad operations training to kickstart your career in the fast-paced realm of operations management. You'll dive into the intricacies of railroad operations, preparing to oversee conductors and locomotive engineers either at a rail terminal or within a road territory. To ensure your success, you'll participate in a conductor certification course, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in our operational environment.

Work Environment
Your role demands flexibility, requiring availability during nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations. You'll perform your duties both indoors and outdoors, experiencing firsthand the diverse elements of rail operations. Trainees receive an orientation at our Atlanta, GA headquarters, followed by three weeks of conductor schooling and training at our Norfolk Southern training center, before heading to their on-the-job training location. During the intensive training program, anticipate approximately 25% travel.
This position is based in our Central Region, covering Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in any field
- Alternatively, 4 years of leadership experience in sectors such as military, manufacturing, transportation, and logistics will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Military personnel with experience as a Railway Operations Crewmember (88U), Logistics Specialist, Embarkation Specialist (0421), Air Force Traffic Management Apprentice (2T2x1), and Machinery Technician (MK) are encouraged to apply.
